How do vaccines work?
Vaccines help train our immune system to fight a disease. They have a tiny piece of the virus or bacteria - so small it will not make you ill. But your body will notice. When you get a vaccine your immune system starts up:
It spots the virus or bacteria that should not be in your body
It starts making antibodies to fight the disease.
It remembers the disease, and how to fight it next time.
